Climbing La Maroma from El Robledal is not just a route, it's almost a small inner journey. You start among oaks and gall oaks, with that smell of damp earth and leaves crunching under your boots. The path starts quietly, as if it wanted to trick you, letting you enjoy the forest without rushing, listening to birds and the occasional distant cowbell. Little by little, without realizing it, the path starts to get serious. The slope appears and already asks you for a bit more effort. This is where the body warms up and breathing becomes more prominent. Even so, the environment continues to accompany: clearings in the forest where light filters through, views that open up timidly towards the Axarquía, and that silence only broken by the wind. When you leave the most wooded part behind, you notice the change. The landscape becomes more open, wilder. The vegetation is low and the ground becomes more stony. You are already in the high mountains of the Sierra de Tejeda, and it feels like it. Here the wind usually blows strongly and reminds you that you are truly gaining height. The last part towards the summit of La Maroma has that point of hardness that makes the reward worth it. It is a more demanding section, where every step counts, but also where the views start to be spectacular. If the day is clear, you can see from the Mediterranean to the Sierra Nevada. And when you get to the top… there's no hurry. You sit down, breathe, look around, and understand why you've climbed. It's not just the summit, it's the whole path to get there. Take enough water, some warm clothes even if the weather is good, and above all, a desire to enjoy without looking at the clock too much.
